RANGKU ALU, BALANCING THE ABILITIES OF THE RIGHT AND LEFT BRAINS
Rangku Alu is a traditional game that is played accompanied by songs and dances. This traditional game originates from East Nusa Tenggara. The Rangku Alu game can be played by everyone, both girls and boys, from children to adults.
How to play the Rangku Alu game requires two teams consisting of a team of guards and a team of players. Each team consists of 4 – 6 people. The guard team is tasked with moving the bamboo sticks according to the rhythm. Meanwhile, the team of players is tasked with walking between bamboo stalks according to the beat and avoiding bamboo pins. If a member of the player team is caught by a bamboo stick, the team must change duties as a guard team.
The tool needed to play Rangku Alu is a bamboo stick. Even though it uses simple tools, it provides complex benefits in this game. The beat of the bamboo stick is not only useful as a game instrument but also used as a musical instrument for the Rangku Alu song and dance.
Behind the uniqueness of traditional games, it also brings benefits for brain development. The Rangku Alu game can balance the abilities of the right brain and left brain. Children’s brain abilities are stimulated through logic and reasoning from bamboo stick movements. Meanwhile, the ability of the left brain is stimulated through songs and dances in playing.
